It’s SMOOTHIE WEEK! Over on Instagram, I am sharing a handful of posts that are smoothie focused. Let’s begin with my daily smoothie I make every morning.
The key to this smoothie is that I make it at breakfast time. I am already in the zone making breakfast for all the kids and it’s easier to do it now then get everything out again mid-morning. Plus, this way if I leave the house early I can go ahead and bring this with me to enjoy. Note, I do not drink this until mid-morning, hence the name. First thing in the morning I have peanut butter + honey toast. I then set this smoothie on the counter for me to enjoy later in the morning when I get hungry again.
This is the blender I use. A Vitamix blender is the only one I can truly recommend. It just works so well! I used to use the 5200 Model and also love it; I simply upgraded when I was gifted a new one and actually gave the 5200 to a friend who is still using it – it’s 10 years old and going strong!!
These are all approximations… I don’t measure anything. I know that might seem annoying but smoothies are so forgiving. Unless you are following a strict recipe for calories or health reasons you don’t have to stress too much about exact measurements.
I do the liquid and powders first; berries last. I find the heavy stuff on top pushes the other stuff down and it’s less likely to get stuck if the liquid and spinach blend first. I have been making smoothies for over 10 years and this order absolutely works best at getting everything smooth and blended well!
1/3 c kefir (can sub plain yogurt)
1/2 to 1 c almond milk
1 tbs ground flax seed
1 tbs hemp hearts
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I like Aloha Vanilla Protein Powder)
2 huge handful of fresh spinach
1/3 frozen banana
1 cup frozen fruit of choice (I use mixed berries)
Mom to four wonderful little people. While they sleep, I cook.
