Almost two years of #PastaMonday…
It started when Alberta was a newborn. The most I could think of was box of noodles + jar of sauce. At first this little shift did exactly what I was expecting: it simplified things. Mondays felt long and hard and I needed one less decision to make. Plus, the kids all ate it.
What I didn’t expect was how much it would breathe new creativity into our meals in what on the outside would appear to be a lot of mundane repetition. Year one was basically all one box of pasta + one jar of sauce. But in year two, I have tried 4 meatball recipes, made over 12 pasta shapes, and done various experiments with sauces. It sounds funny, but looking back I could see the pastas get more life as I was coming out of the fog and personally getting more life.
Anyways, this small weekly ritual has become such a highlight for me, and I wanted to share it for anyone else feeling in a rut. Maybe just pick a day of the week that makes sense to you, and start with a simple box of noodles and a jar of sauce. See where it takes you.
#PastaMonday, thank you. You helped me fall in love with cooking again. One pot of boiling water at a time 🍝❤️
Mom to four wonderful little people. While they sleep, I cook.
