**Mind you, this post is going to be in 2 parts, and they are going to contradict each other but I think it will make sense. Part 2 will be tomorrow.**
For me, breakfast is a declaration that while nutrition matters, my mind and my soul matter more. Many of you know this, but I eat the exact same thing every. single. morning: bread of some kind (usually @daveskillerbread or a local sourdough from the farmers market) + crunchy peanut butter + banana + honey from our bees + chia seeds and hemp hearts
The reason I eat the same thing every morning is simple: I like it, and it’s one less decision I have to make that day. I don’t really have to think about it at all. The coffee pot starts brewing at 5:30, I get up (hopefully?) soon after to read and be alone, then around 6:30 I make this toast. The entire first hour of my day is completely routine at this point and I am so thankful for it.
On the cusp of summer and a million “what will we do today? what’s for dinner? what’s for snack? can i have a snack? can we watch something? where are we going?” questions, this small act helps me fight against what @emilypfreeman calls it “decision fatigue.”
Perhaps, even if just for the summer, there’s one meal you could absolutely streamline and take all the decisions out of it. Maybe not dinner (that might cause mutiny) but breakfast or lunch could be just the thing to free up some brain space. Maybe it could help simplify the grocery store trips, tantrums, and mostly just the amount of decisions you have to make in a day.
Is there a summertime meal you streamline? If so, I would love to hear it!
*Also, the two jars I sprinkle my seeds from are old spice jars, cleaned and filled with chia seeds and hemp hearts (both of which I buy at Costco). I put a piece of masking tape on top to label them. Nothing fancy but they work like a charm. Remember, it doesn’t have to be beautiful to be functional. Have a lovely day everyone!
