Hi there! I’m back again with Batch Breakfast Idea #3 for you! We’re all familiar with a yogurt parfait. Nothing shocking there. But the beauty in this one comes in saving some cash by making your own, using these specific containers, and letting your kids get creative. Bonus: You can use frozen fruit (#ballinonabudget) and store-brand plain yogurt (save some sugar) to make these. You can also make a few at once and simply store them in the fridge.
I love these little ziplock twist-and-lock 1-cup plastic containers (they are labeled “extra small” size). The lids screw on so they won’t come off in a lunchbox, and they won’t break if your child drops them.
You might have to do some trial and error to figure out what your child likes. For instance, if they want the granola extra crunchy, add it on top. If they want it to soften some, put it in the middle. Chia seeds will coagulate and soften, which some kids will like; Scout didn’t like the texture that way. Another great way to add some fun flavor and color is to add strawberry or any other flavor of jam. Have fun with it!
Some things you could try to jazz it up:
– Use any cereal they like, granola (we love @purelyelizabeth), or plain oats
– Add fun toppings like sprinkles or mini chocolate chips
– Use their favorite type of fruit (berries, mango, pineapple — whatever!)
– Top the parfaits with a drizzle of honey
– Incorporate seeds like hemp and chia
– Add a spoonful of jam
– Throw in some nuts they enjoy
Really it’s about letting them use some creativity and try something new. If they make one and don’t like it, no sweat. Keep it and throw it in the next smoothie you make. Trust me, they won’t even notice it in there!
