Here is how mom and I batch cook: the week before, we usually decide on 2 meals we want to make. From there, we divide the ingredients. I tell her what I have, she checks to see what she has, then we both add the leftover needed items to our grocery lists for the week. (You could also each just pick a recipe and bring everything for that particular dish to keep it simple).
.
She comes over on the designated day (usually with 1-2 soft coolers with her ingredients, and if I’m lucky, Starbucks lattes) and for a few hours we just do the damn thing.
.
Sometimes we chat. Sometimes we have to be quiet and concentrate so we don’t forget ingredients. We use my largest pots in order to double or sometimes triple the recipe, and we both usually have plenty of foil containers so we can make meals to give away. We then fill containers, cover, and label them with cooking instructions.
.
It’s honestly not the least bit glamorous. But my goodness, it’s wonderful. We work and chop and talk and Saint Berta usually stays on top of the dishes.
.
Finding another person to batch cook with (it doesn’t have to be your mom) can be such a gift. You can double what you make, make 2-3 things at once, share favorite recipes, or rotate who is cooking so one person is always on child duty. You both leave with meals for weeks to come, and the blessing of time with another actual human being. Chopping is so much more enjoyable when there’s someone to talk to ❤️

Any logistics questions for us? I’ll do my best to answer!
Mom to four wonderful little people. While they sleep, I cook.
