This weekend I went and bought heavier weights for my morning workouts. Let me tell you what, it is incredible how much harder the exact same workouts are when the weight you carry is heavier. Sets that felt easy before I can now barely make it through. The workout didn’t change, but the load did.
I remember this exact same feeling from the last time I upped my weights, and a metaphor that feels fitting for this “season of resolutions.”
Perhaps you are in a phase where the days feel light. The metaphorical workout is a breeze. And then I am fairly certain there are others here whose weights have increased, either intentionally or at no choice of your own. The days have a load to them that can feel insurmountable. You’re giving your max effort and reaching the point of exhaustion.
If you are struggling with capacity or wondering why you can’t do what you used to, perhaps your load is (just like my weights) quite literally heavier. Whether you chose it or not, it’s more to carry. The same tasks you did at a lighter weight now feel more taxing, and a good rest day might feel just out of reach.
I don’t have a magic fix, and I don’t know your situation personally. But I do pray you would remind yourself of the same thing I do during my workouts: this IS harder. I AM carrying more. And that simple reminder allows you to be so very kind with yourself. Patient with yourself. Gentle with yourself when you reach failure. You aren’t weak, you are simply carrying more. And I will bet getting stronger in the process ❤️💪🏼
