Here’s what I have personally come to conclude and it has made all the difference in my life: food is not ultimate. Is it important? yes. But so are a million other important decisions we make in a day. What I eat for lunch does not hold weight over my soul.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There was actually a time back in the day when I focused heavily on eating super well. “Clean,” if you will. And ironically, the freedom and health I hoped would come from eating so well actually caused a lot of bondage and anxiety.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know by all standards, we still eat extremely “healthy,” but it doesn’t hold this bondage over me like it once did. It invites in Dominoes and Oreos and processed foods. It’s not something I give a lot of thought to.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because here’s the thing: food is not God. Health is not God. They do not bring the certainty and control we hope they will. They are not the Rock on which to stand.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I pray as you go about making your grocery lists and meal plans and weekend plans, that food does not have the ultimate say over who you are. I pray you feed yourself and your people with a joy and a lightness that puts food in it’s rightful place: just food. Not our safety, security, or righteousness.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy Saturday, friends. May you eat with joy.
Mom to four wonderful little people. While they sleep, I cook.
